If the programs that you run demand GPU 2D or 3D accel and you are connected over a VNC, RDP or NX session, I don't know what the result will be, but suspect either a blank background OR a crash of VNC/RDP/NX at the client or server. VNC server is probably what you are using on Linux, not RDP. The terminal will ask you for confirmation. In this example, we will install the Vanilla Gnome desktop environment in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS operating system: sudo apt install vanilla-gnome-desktop. Your remote desktop "server" simply needs to be setup to run whatever you choose. In Ubuntu, we can use the apt command followed by the environment name to install any desktop environment available in its official repository.
